Washington: ‘This Offense can be one of the Best in the League’
Posted by on June 20, 2012 – 12:18 am
Wide receiver Nate Washington was a key player in Tennessee’s offense a year ago, setting career-highs in receptions (74), receiving yards (1,023) and touchdowns (7).
The Titans got solid play from QB Matt Hasselbeck and saw Jared Cook develop into one of the league’s most productive and promising tight ends.
Now, with the expected return of Kenny Britt and the acquisition of explosive Baylor wide-out Kendall Wright, the eight-year veteran believes the Titans’ offense could be “one of the best in the league” entering the 2012 season.
“This offense can be very good,” Washington said following Tuesday’s minicamp practice at Baptist Sports Park. “Getting CJ back to the stage he was at a couple of years ago and at the end of last year, I think this offense could be one of the best in the league. It’s just a matter of our want-to, our work ethic and how much it means to us.”
The Titans developed into more of a passing offense a year ago, and the addition of Wright gives Tennessee even more options in its aerial attack.
“We’re changing up a lot of things, creating opportunities for a lot of different guys and different positions,” Washington said. “I don’t necessarily have to play in the slot all the time anymore. Kenny (Britt) won’t necessarily be outside all the time. Kendall’s addition gives us a lot of different opportunities to look at.“
Washington said the front office did a good job of expanding its receiving core this off-season and that everyone has been working hard this spring getting ready for training camp and the start of the season.
As the veteran of the group, he wants to lead by example.
“I didn’t set the bar at 1,000 yards for myself, I just played and 1,000 yards came through hard work…that’s where I have to set the bar at — through my hard work,” Washington said. “Everything I did last year, I want to take it up another notch and be accountable, pay attention to more film and make sure that I’m here every day on the practice fields working out as hard as I can.”
So far his example is paying off.
“Right now in the spring it means a lot to the guys seeing how hard they’re working. Seeing Kendall as young as he is, that’s the reason he’s sitting right now because he’s out there giving everything he can, diving on the ground for footballs and doing all those kinds of things,” Washington said. “These guys are giving it their all to make sure they are accountable in August and making sure that when the season starts in September we’re ready to go.“

I have a funny feeling we are going to be an ELITE team this year, we’re atleast gonna have a Houston Texans type turnaround and hopefully we make it 2 the superbowl. But that’s taking it too far ahead, I just hope we have a good season first. If we don’t I’ll be highly upset but just like alll the other bad seasons titans have had, I will stick with them, cuz I’m a loyal fan unlike ALOT of people.

I have been saying our team is on the verge of an explosive season for years, but simple mistakes, unfortunate injuries, and a lack of rhythm for four quarters has plagued us. Nate, you’re absolutely right man And looking at every piece of the puzzle, new coaching staff, new playbooks, same great athletes, up-and-coming skilled position players, new talent, and motivation, the Tennessee Titans finally have a chance to come out and out score teams to death once again. Great job coaching staff and leaders and players and keep up the hard work. Lets get it baby!

I, like a lot of us Titan’s fans, can not wait for this season to begin! I believe Coach Munchak has put together a great staff of like-minded coaches and players that are going to surprise some teams this year. One can just feel the cohesive chemistry that the players young and old have on this team. We have some play big makers too. Britt, Nate, kendall, CJ, Cookie and more.
We have a really tough schedule but to be the best you have to beat the best and what better team to open up than with a payback win against Tom Terrific and his band of easy-scheduled divas? I mean, did you see their schedule? I don’t think they play a playoff team until game 13 of the season. Sheesh!
Come on New England…come get your Music City Beat down!
Go Titans!

@fraklin p my friends are laughing at me too but I am right there with you! We are gonna be improved all across the board and our offense will be beastly this year! Hopefully we can catch the Packers sleeping (doesn’t happen often) but I will be at the Steelers game to watch us beat those d*bags down! We could make some noise this year! Go Titans

It has been a long time since I felt that we truly had a great team! Unfortunately I don’t think our team is an elite one this year simply because to be a championship team you have to have a killer defense, which we do not. Our offense will win us alot of games by outscoring teams as long as CJ stays healthy and runs like a man this year and our wideouts dont get hurt. I really see a wildcard playoff squad and within a year or two with the right moves in the front office to improve our D……We have a Super Bowl team!!!! Go Titans!!

I believe we can be the best if we don’t have alot of penalties like false starts which kills me because you know the snap count.I know we got what it takes to be great.GO TITANS!!

I sure hope Kenny doesn’t turn out to be another “Packman”. The Titans don’t need a player they can’t count on. Everyone understands injury, but stupidity is another matter. It looks like the Titans are going to play the first four games with him on probation. “Not to worry” we have plenty of other good receivers.
I can’t wait for September 9 to roll around. At the end of the day after a victory over New England the rest of the league will take notice.

Can I just say what a relief to discover somebody that really knows what they’re talking about on the internet. You certainly know how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More people really need to check this out and understand this side of your story. I was surprised you aren’t more popular given that you surely possess the gift.
