Munchak Eager to get Top Pick Wright in Camp

Top draft pick Kendall Wright remains unsigned, but head coach Mike Munchak feels the 20th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft will fit right back in once he makes his way to Baptist Sports Park.

Wright, the prolific wide receiver out of Baylor, turned heads during spring OTAs with his athleticism and pass catching skills. He’s expected to play a significant role in Tennessee’s offense, especially early on as Kenny Britt continues to recover from a pair of knee surgeries.

“The good thing for us is that he spent the eight or nine weeks with us and has a really good feel for what we’re doing,” Munchak told reporters Sunday night. “You want him here, there’s no doubt. If he’s going to help us early, you don’t want to miss any time. We’ll see, but he’s a guy that has a great head start on most young receivers just because of the system he was in, the fact that he played four years in college, and he got better every year.”

Munchak said Wright’s ability to read coverages from the system he played in at Baylor makes him different from other young receivers.

“He’s not a guy that played two years and came out and is still figuring the game out,” Munchak added. “He was part of a pretty good offense at Baylor and has a lot of confidence. I think we all saw that when he was here in OTAs. I think that gives him a chance, even though he’s missed a few days that he should be fine.”

Munchak said he hopes Wright is signed in time to participate in Tennessee’s joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons Aug. 6 in Dalton, Ga.

“I was hoping obviously that it’d be done by now, but we can’t worry about him until he gets here,” he said. “Hopefully it’ll be soon…We’ll just hope for the best and practice with the guys that are here.”

C’mon Kendall, look at the job market man. If you could even find a job out there you’d be doin’ great. If you could make 40k a year that would be fantastic. Here’s a chance to do what you love to do and you’ll make that much every month. And you hold out for more? How’d that hold-out work for CJ last year? What about your team mates?

You guys have lost your perspective on the real world.

If I was Mr. Adams I’d say “Just sign the contract that makes you a multi-millionaire and get into camp or I will bench you for the entire season and trade you at the end of the year…enough of this prima donna BS.”

    Sheesh!

    Go Titans!

Get it done guys, I realize that the NFL is a business, but it’s ridiculous and embarrassing for a 20th overall pick to still be unsigned by training camp. I thought the rookie wage scale with the new CBA was supposed to make this bullcrap go away.

I don’t blame him at all. Like addicted2football said, this is a business, but in this business your body and ability are the product. There is NO WAY I would bust my butt my entire life trying to maybe one day make it to the NFL and practice without something in writing. What if you have a career ending injury during practice and you’re not signed? Who would be the “prima donna” then? I’m sure Mr. Adams would take care of you long term……..
