Roos Among NFL’s Iron Men

Posted by Gary Glenn on September 19, 2012 – 5:29 pm

The Titans’ media relations staff reports that this week’s Titans-Lions game features the two NFL offensive tackles with the longest current starting streaks: Detroit’s Jeff Backus and Tennessee’s Michael Roos.

Roos has started all 114 games for the Titans since entering the league as a second-round draft pick in 2005. He has started on the left side in every game since the start of his second season.

Backus has been entrenched at left tackle for the Lions since being selected in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He holds the franchise record with 178 consecutive starts.

Besides Backus, the only offensive players in the NFL with more consecutive starts than Roos are New York Jets guard Brandon Moore (123) and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (121).

178 – Jeff Backus (LT) – Detroit
123 – Brandon Moore (G) – N.Y. Jets
121 – Eli Manning (QB) – N.Y. Giants
114 – Michael Roos (LT) – Tennessee
98 – Matt Birk (C) – Baltimore
98 – Jahri Evans (G) – New Orleans
98 – D’Brickashaw Ferguson (T) – N.Y. Jets
