Kern off to Pro Bowl Start

Posted by Gary Glenn on September 20, 2012 – 10:09 am

Brett Kern is off to a Pro Bowl start, leading the NFL in net punting average (47.5 avg.), nearly two yards ahead of Denver’s Britton Colquitt (45.7 avg), who ranks second.

So far this season Kern has recorded two of the franchise’s top 11 net punting performances. His 45.5-yard net average against New England tied for eighth (now ninth) in franchise history, and he followed that
with a 48.6-yard net average the following week at San Diego to rank third in franchise history.

Kern’s net average at San Diego set a new career high, more than two yards better than his previous high of 46.5 net yards at Seattle on Jan. 3, 2010.

The effort against the Chargers trailed only a pair of games in franchise history by Greg Montgomery, who posted a 49.8 net average against San Diego (9/19/93) and 49.4 net mark against Buffalo (12/27/92).

Over his last seven games dating back to Dec. 4, 2011 at Buffalo, Kern has produced four of the team’s all-time top 11 net punting games.

Why not blog about what matters? Kern wouldn’t be having a Pro-Bowl season if the Titans offense and defense would do their jobs. No O-line, D-line, Running game or passing game! All that’s left is the damned special teams!
