Missed Opportunities Cost Titans in Loss to Colts

Posted by ldouzable on October 29, 2012 – 5:46 pm

On Sunday we played against a division rival that was just as hungry as we were for a victory. In the end, the Colts won in overtime, 19-13, in a game in which a few missed opportunities and misfortunates ultimately cost us the game.

On offense we continued to be consistent running the ball as Chris Johnson had 21 rushing attempts for 99 yards. Matt Hasselbeck was also solid, completing 22 of 29 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown.

However, our offense sputtered in the red zone as we scored just one touchdown and had three field goal attempts, missing one that could have been the difference in the game.

On defense we held the Colts to six points until the final three minutes of the game, when Colts rookie QB Andrew Luck led his team on an 80-yard drive to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Our defense was able to apply consistent pressure on Luck as we recorded two sacks, several knockdowns and QB hurries. However, Luck was also able to elude some tacklers and make some big plays down the field. He was impressive, completing 26 of 38 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown and an interception. That interception was a great play and catch by safety Michael Griffin to stop a Colts scoring drive.

We know we left a lot of plays out there on the field Sunday. This loss will sting for a while, but we have to move on and get to work as we prepare for this week’s opponent, the Chicago¬† Bears Sunday at LP Field.

The Bears are 6-1 and have one of the NFL’s top defenses and several offensive weapons. We know that we will have to give our best effort to come out with a victory on Sunday — nothing else is on our minds.

I blame this on coaching… this is not what Titan fans are use to seeing. We are small at defensive tackle, anybody can run on us. In overtime we had 10 men on the field twice…Munchak you get no respect from the Reffs. We dont care about the fines.. You need to raise hell to get your point across for that poor officiating on Sunday….3 AND 5 is not good when you got the Bears coming to town and a hardnose Dolphins team before the bye.. LETS WIN 2 IN A ROW… TITANS.

As a Colts fan at the game yesterday I have a few observations. It is the quietest stadium I have ever been to. Except for the boos of course. Those were very loud. It was more like a social event than an NFL game. At Indy, when the other team has the ball it is crazy loud. Not so much in Nashville. The first down 1-2-3 thing happened on more than 1 occasion as the Titans were snapping the ball. That’s quiet time. Wow. Thought that was funny. The only time I saw anyone wearing Titans gear was at the game. I guess its more of a tourist town. I will say the hospitality there was exceptional. I will return next year as we have won 7 of 10 at LP field.

Why in the world want the management do something about the coaching staff ? It’s as plan as the nose on your face there is some sorry coaching. You’ve got a head coach who just stands sideline every game with his arms cross swaying back n forth like he doesn’t want to be there ! Never see him getting fired up. How are you going to get your players fired up if you got a coach that looks like he doesn’t give a crap !
Hey Bud you’ll never see a Superbowl with this coaching staff ! Your going to loose a lot of fans and money Bud if you don’t do something. I have always loved the Titans but I just see them going to the bottom with a sorry coaching staff.Guess I will have to start pulling for the Falcons.

Rick and Titanman . . . your both losers. First to jump on the bandwagon when we get a win streak going. The titans had a chance to win 3 in a row . . . when we played Pittsburgh did you wave terrible towels. Munchak has more respect from the refs than you can imagine . . . he is a class act . . . you don’t treat the refs like #$#@ . . . it doesn’t get you anywhere except deeper in the hole when you really need a call go your way. The players have to make a play on 3rd downs . . . offense and defense. They did it against Pittsburgh and Bills . . . thats all it came down to against Colts. Hasselbach missed a wide open Cook on 3rd down on the 42 yrd line . . . and the defense couldn’t make a play on 3rd and 5 on the 11yrd line. We make one of two and the titans win the game . . . professional football is a fine line between good and bad .

Hey Tyler Rose you must be a die hard Munchak fan. Always understand that stats don’t lie. We have a bad defense, Chris Palmer playcalling is suspect…..
Check the STATS. Even TE Cook has ask for a trade. I dont think you have enough wisdom to be talking about football…. GO TITANS

They still have no heart and finally griffin did some thing wow. Chris is plqyin better to bad Jeff fisher isn’t here anymore atleast they would be tougher and coached better maybe he should try playin man on defense since tommy Campbell and sensabaugh are suppose to be fast and move verner to safety since he seems to be the only guy on defense that make plays consistently so he could roam and thank me for helping these guys fix this and cut derrick Morgan

Hey everyone that was a fumble late in the game i blame the refs for our loss. And another thing when Hasselback was getting up and they pulled his legs out from underneath of him thats a 15 yard penalty on anyone else imagine someone doing that to Brady or Manning or Worthlesburger . Another thing i think our fans suck it should b loud there and its not to many rich peps sitting on thier asses.

Why are we subjected to poor defensive coaching. This has been a theme for the past 5 to 6 years. Why can’t management hire an acceptable staff that can teach fundamentals (how many tackles did we miss) plus scheme effectively and utilize the blitz. There is no crowd at the games and u can get tickets for nothing at the gates. It seems that all management wants is the team to fail. Get rid of Gray and get us acceptable defensive coaches.

I’m on board with number1titanfan, the bad no call on the fumble at the end of regulation screwed us out of a win FOR SURE. I have to admit though, if we were as good as we should be, then we shouldn’t have needed that fumble call to be made correctly to win that game because we SHOULD have been up by 2 or 3 scores by that point. Refs cost us a game without a doubt, but we OBVIOUSLY have some work to do on defense. Also, it super sucks that Jared Cook is looking for a trade, it seems like every time we get a player primed for stardom they go somewhere else.

The offense of line has finally come together. Hence the running game back on track. All we need is the D – line to step up and get on the same page. Once Locker comes back and adds the run threat during passing situations . . . this team could be legit. But that D line is way, way behind schedule . . . and its giving teams too many opportunities to exploit our secondary on crucial downs ! I think its the talent on D line . . . they brought in a special coach to help these guys . . . but its helped very little !

Jared Cook has to learn to block better and be on the same page as the QB all times. This guy is a great talent . . . but he is not the brightest star in the sky . . . this is why it took so long for Fisher to play him all the time. Munchak always mentions he doesn’t sell his routes . . . which could make him even better on shorter routes. He should shut up and let the team grow . . . he is not our only big weapon !

  12. By Tyler Rose on Oct 30, 2012 | Reply

It took Jeff Fisher 5 years to build a super bowl team . . . Nashville got the final product. Jeff Fisher was thrown under the bus for a piece of @%!* QB. Munchak is doing ok . . . will he have to let go of some people . . . probably ! When he put this coaching lineup together he didn’t have much time . . . he’s not an intense personality . . . but he is very bright . . . and makes good, quick decisions.

  13. By Titanman45 on Oct 30, 2012 | Reply

For all you guys who think Munchak needs to stay at head coach must dont know football. We dont care if Munchak is a laid back guy, our team plays just like the way he looks on TV. We had 10 men on the field in overtime, now how can you explain this problem. I understand if this happens once but twice thats coaching.
And the head coach should take the blame. Munchak maybe good at coaching a few guys on the line, but a 53 man roster you can for get it. The Colts had alot of injuries in the secondary, so why at halftime we couldn’t make that adjustment.

  14. By Tyler Rose on Oct 30, 2012 | Reply

Titanman . . . Munchak has only been on the job for a season and a half. You can’t grade him yet . . . If you do your clueless. I think he’s going to get the job done some how some way. Players respect him and play hard for him . . . but their just not that good. 1/2 of the players he doesn’t even want ! Locker is going to be great along with Wright . . . The O line is coming together. The D line sucks . . . and its the biggest problem we have right now.

I am a TITANS fan. If they loose 16 games I’m still a Titans fan. I love this team and all they stand for in our communityy. Refs stink; coaches stink; but the Titans will always be a team I am proud of every day. Cut out the bitching and name calling, this is the only team we’ve got and I’m damn proud of it. GO TITANS!!!
