Cook: Titans Have too Much Talent to Underperform

Posted by Gary Glenn on November 27, 2012 – 11:10 am

Dowell Loggains (right) takes over for Chris Palmer as offensive coordinator for the Titans.

Tight end Jared Cook believes the Titans have too many offensive weapons to underperform like they did in Sunday’s 24-19 loss at Jacksonville.

He told the Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt that only time will tell if dismissing offensive coordinator Chris Palmer was the right move. At the end of the day, Cook said he and his teammates need to produce better results.

The Titans replaced Palmer with quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains.

“We have too many weapons on this offense to be looking mediocre, to be looking like we can’t put points on the board. It just feels like we have too much talent on offense, and it was evident to everybody,” Cook said. “I feel like most everybody liked coach Palmer as a person, but we had different levels of understanding.

“Do I think it is the right move? Time will tell. We still have to go out and play games and put points on the board.

“I think everybody in the organization felt like some kind of change needed to be made. Hearing Bud Adams’ message after the Chicago game, there was a sense of things didn’t get better, something was going to happen,” Cook said. “I just didn’t think it was going to be today.

“Everyone loves Dowell, and everybody gets along with him. You can go to Dowell and talk to him about anything.”

Well Cook blame yourself…. You have alot of talent, but for some reason your soft underneath your helmet and pads.. Learn how to get physical in the run game, and make sure you catch the ball on 3rd down when we need you to.
Sometimes your play is suspect…you need to play harder these next 5 games.

Can’t say i am shocked about this situation i felt letting fisher go was a bad idea we at least had a great defense under him and Palmer had to fill the shoes of Heimerdinger which i knew wasn’t going to happen. What we need is someone who has the drive to win and is going to push these players to their true potential which I KNOW they have!

“We have too much talent to underperform.” This is coming from the guy, who has since said “I want to be more involved in the game,” has dropped countless passes on 3rd down. What he is saying is correct, we do have a lot of talent to underperform, but this guy needs to step up when his name is called. We also have a 2nd year QB as our starter, and this is his first year starting. Don’t jump the gun yet by saying we have too much talent to underperform. He’s basically a rookie, give him a chance. I feel like many of the fans like Locker. Like I said, give the guy a chance.

Letting Palmer go was a good move. Cook, I want to back you but you play like you don’t even want to be there most of the time. You drop balls, fumble, don’t block all that well and a couple games ago after asking for a trade couldn’t even line up right on back to back plays. Both resulting in penalties! Our Team is Young and our D is very young! I think the D has been getting better over the last few games. I really like that we are blitzing more (7 sacks last week). I think the D has had 1 bad game since the Steeler win and that was to the bills, which we won. Chicago’s thumping really wasnt the D’s fault. Short field and turnovers killed us there. We will see where we stand after sunday. I am looking forward to the young and eager new OC. Sounds like the players like him and should play hard for him. We will be a very good team in the very near future. Please, no more Fisher or VY comments – They are no longer Titans! One wears Rams colors and the other doesn’t even wear colors anymore (to busy wondering where his money went). Oiler/Titan fan for life!

i believe all of the coaches need to be fired i was there at the game and there was no emotions on the sideline. how can you come off a bye and lose to a 1-9 team. that is very sicking a poor coaching.

I DONT UNDERSTAND YOU TITANS YOU BLOW OUT MIAMI THEN YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO PREPARE FOR THE JAGUARS AND YOU LOSE TO A 1-9 TEAM NO EXCUSE IN IT HAVE FUN WATCHING THE PLAYOFFS SITING ON THE COUCH BECAUSE THERES NO WAY AT 4-7 YOUR MAKING THE PLAYOFFS YOU MIGHT BEAT THE JAGS BUT THE TEXANS WILL BLOW YOU OUT LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO

Vince Young is out there,.. He plays at a high level, and will compliment the offense… When he is in the game , defenses respect his abilities… Bring him in and take a look at him…. The price would be LOW… The reward could be super (as in SuperBowl)…
Vince have made mistakes as have most quarterbacks in the league. That should not stop a team from giving him a tryout… He is the best available QB out there..
Vince Young is a “great” guy, with a “good” heart…

Derrick I agree with you. I was at the game also and I felt the Titans did not play up as thet did in Miami. I left the game very disappointed. A 1-9 team we are suppose to beat especially after a bye. We have 5 games left and 3 are AFC South Division games. If you can’t win your division your chances of making the playoffs is slim. We use to own Houston every year and now they own us. Wow!!! Come on guys stop talking and just do your jobs.

Sorry evansvc, but the LAST thing this team needs is Vince Young back. Stick with Locker, with a better O coordinator I honestly believe he can take us all the way, even though that will probably be next season. Young is an immature head case.

With 19 pts, every team should be able to come out with a win. It all comes down to the defense, the defensive coordinator should have been let go. The Titans in past seasons have had top ten run defenses, but that is not the case this year. Enough talent to win in the post-season but not with the current coaching staff!

The decisions made by Mr Adams the last few years has this team stuck in state of mediocrity that will last for many years I’m afraid. We are bad from the top down. Never seen it this bad.
