As we took on the New York Jets in a Monday Night Football Clash, we knew that it would take a complete team effort to pull off a victory. The Jets were still in playoff contention, and it was an opportunity for us to end their playoff chances in front of a national television audience.
We did just that in a hard-fought 14-10 victory at LP Field.
The Jets struck first with a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter. But Chris Johnson gave us the lead midway through the second quarter when he ripped off a franchise-record 94-yard touchdown run. CJ joined Bo Jackson and Ahman Green as the only three players in NFL history to score multiple 90-yard touchdowns. He also extended his NFL record to six career touchdowns of at least 80 yards.
Quarterback Jake Locker was efficient as he completed 13 of 22 passes for 149 yards. His 13-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter showed grit and determination, while proving to be the game-winning score. Overall, our offense played well, but still needs to work on the mechanics of sustaining and finishing drives with touchdowns.
Our defense played one of its best games of the season as we were able to force five turnovers, including four interceptions and one fumble recovery. Our defensive backs stepped up as cornerback Jason McCourty and safety Michael Griffin recorded two interceptions each. Linebacker Zach Brown had an impressive game with six tackles, one assist, two sacks and a fumble recovery that sealed the game for us.
It was a great team win for us and it felt good to get back in the win column. This week we travel to historic Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers, who clinched the NFC North division on Sunday. They are still playing for a higher seed in the playoffs, so we realize will have our hands full. They have are always tough at home and we will need to be at our best on Sunday to come out with another victory.
