Michael Griffin Believes Gregg Williams Would Help Titans Defense

Posted by Gary Glenn on January 28, 2013 – 4:04 pm

Michael Griffin believes the addition of Gregg Williams would help the Titans’ defense.

Griffin was asked about Titans coaching staff changes today during a community event at Hunters Lane High School in which Papa John’s made an $8,592 donation to his “Sacks 4 Kids” program benefiting underprivileged children.

“I’m pretty sure if you put he and Coach (Jerry) Gray together we can get things turned around,” Griffin said. “If he comes, I know coach Gray has coached underneath him, so I don’t think it would be anything where two coaches would bump heads trying to figure things out. Just watching the Saints play when they won the Super Bowl, and watching the way they played [under Williams],…and he’s been a coach here before. So he’d be able to bring all that together. I think it would help us in the long run.”

Griffin said he didn’t feel there would be any trust issues with the former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator.

“I don’t think so. All of that is in the past and you just have to move forward,” Griffin said. “He’s been suspended and most people learn their lesson when they get suspended. The league took action and you just go from there. He paid his dues. He missed the whole entire season. You just have to go from there and move forward. I think as a Tennessee Titans organization we have bigger problems than to worry about what happened with the Saints.”

And would Williams need to tone down his approach?

“I don’t know about necessarily toning things down, I think he would just have to re-word his terminology,” Griffin said. “Football is a rough sport. Just watch (safety) Bernard Pollard play for the Baltimore Ravens. Some of those hits he’s doing – they’re all perfectly legal. It’s part of the game. If Williams does join us, I’m pretty confident that we could probably get things turned around going into this next season.”

Nearly a month removed from football, Griffin said he returned to the weight room last week and will continue picking up his conditioning pace throughout the off-season. After watching Sunday’s Pro Bowl and with the Super Bowl approaching, his football juices are flowing.

“Really you start getting geared back up and ready to play,” he said. “We’ve been out for almost a month now. I’m just getting back into the weight room, starting to train and pretty soon will get back out running and just get ready for next year.”

And Griffin will be ready play a key role on a defense that significantly improved over the second half of last season and one he feels is ready to take the next step.

“This team now is getting older. A lot of these guys are going into their third years. We’re not rookies or second-year players anymore,” Griffin said. “You’ve got Jurrell Casey who’s stepping his game up. Sen’Derrick Marks is stepping his game up. Now it’s time for all of us to step our game up. No more excuses. It’s time for us to get things turned around and get back on track.”

Well Griffen… Dont be surprise if the Titans cut you this year. Im just saying, if Mr .Willams get hired he will get some safties who like to bang…Just look at his history with other teams. Saints, Jaguars, Redskins, 99 Titans, all had good safties..Anyway looks like Jeff Fisher has a BIG EGO… he just hired Rob Ryan and now he let him go…WOW… now I see why he’s not in Nashville…

they might have a ss in markelle martin 6-1 198 he didn’t get a chance last season to show his worth who knows could be diamond in the ruff player plus free agency and draft should be able to pick up another ss-cb plus with a good dc like williams could make griffin a better safety by getting more out of him

THIS TEAM IS SO BAD. WILLIAMS WON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE DEGREE EVERYONE THINKS. THE PROBLEM IS THE OWNER. BUD IS ONE OF THE WORST OWNERS IN ANY LEAGUE. UNTIL HE SELLS THIS TEAM, THEY WILL GO ON BEING THE CRAP BAG TEAM THEY ARE. THIS TEAM HAS BEEN A JOKE SINCE AFTER THE SUPER BOWL LOSS IN ’99-’00 SEASON AND NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY FOR BUD BECAUSE HE HAS MADE THIS TEAM A JOKE. GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR GETTING 4 OR 5 BAD WINS. NO PLAYERS IN THE PRO BOWL, TITANS ARE 10TH IN THE DRAFT, THEY JUST SUCK. EVEN IF THEY HAD 1ST PICK IN THE DRAFT THEY’D SCREW THAT UP AND GET ANOTHER VY. YEAH GREAT JOB DRAFTING.

I’D RATHER SEE THEM BRING BACK THE RUN AND SHOOT. THE DEFENCE HAS ALWAYS SUCKED ON THIS TEAM AT LEAST LET THE OFFENCE SCORE SOME POINTS. OH WAIT THERE IS NO WARREN MOON. JUST JAKE LOCKER WHO GETS HURT ALL THE TIME.

If Gregg Williams is brought back to town, I think it would be a tremendous improvement. I feel like he’ll provide the spark they used to have. Of course, rebuilding the defense doesn’t take just one offseason. But hiring Williams will definitely be a great place to start. Hopefully he can fix the problems at the safety position.

What would help the Titans defense most was if they learned how to tackle with authority. I have seen more opposing players slip tackles than stop because of the tackle.

That said, I have been a fan since the team came to Music City. I hope this team has a great 2013 and can win the Super Bowl next year! GOOOO TITANS!!!

DONE DEAL!!!!! Williams has officially been reinstated and we got him!!!! It wouldn’t surprise me at all if his hiring alone fixes our defense, now lets focus on that O line. GO TITANS!!!!!!!!!

BOTH LINES,WE NEED BEEF! AND SOME ATTITUDE & SOME NASTY ON DEFENSE.{CLEAN). AND YES TACKLING.BUT IT ALL STARTS UP FRONT BY NOT GETTING GASHED FOR BIG RUNS & GETTING PRESSURE ON THE QB WHICH WE COULD DO NEITHER LAST YEAR THEN THE MATTER OF THE OFFENSE KEEPING THAT DEFENSE OFF THE FIELD

Beef up the ‘D’/’O’ lines with monsters, and make some freaking holes for CJ2K. Gotta be better against the pass…*Look at our division* I think Greg Williams was a great start, but much more needs to be done..lotta free agent, quality(?) DBs out there….?
