NFL.com Mock Draft Has UNC Guard Jonathan Cooper to Titans at #10

Posted by Gary Glenn on February 22, 2013 – 1:17 pm

Jonathan CooperNFL.com/NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks released his third mock draft and has Jonathan Cooper, a a 6-foot-3, 310-pound guard out of the University of North Carolina, going to the Titans at #10 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Brooks says: “Coach Mike Munchak wants to alleviate the pressure on quarterback Jake Locker by surrounding him with a dominant running game. Cooper would give the Titans an athletic interior blocker with the size, strength and athleticism to own the trenches.”

Brooks has Alabama guard Chance Warmack (6-3, 320) going to the Jets at #9.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock told reporters last week that either Warmack or Cooper would be a great fit for the Titans.

“Chance Warmack from Alabama, I think, is the best football player I saw on tape this year, and Jonathan Cooper from North Carolina is just a tiny notch behind him — matter of fact, Cooper is probably a better athlete,” Mayock said. “If either of those players is on the board at 10, I’d jump all over them.”

Give him britt insurance and for all the doubters turn around and get barret jones from alabama foo play center for us hes bigger than mawae from cjs 2000 yard season…rd 3 lattimore or franklin rb from ucla for some power. Warmack or Cooper in first round, 2nd round Worfod or Barrett Jones which will give Jake great protection and help CJ tremendously ,third a big dominant Nose Tackle or speed Corner. 4th round physical Safety with decent speed or in side linebacker with decent speed . Offensive line has to take top priority, or our quarterback will not stay upright and healthy all season. Just saying.

Robert, I could not agree with you more. I like the idea of Warmack and Barrett Jones side-by-side once again. Even if we did get Cooper, it is a priority to get a guard of their caliber in the first round. The one thing I would add is addressing other needs in free agency. I do believe a bigger back is needed… (i.e. Shawn Greene from the JETS). I know CJ wants to be the featured back, but if he truly wants to make it to the playoffs and beyond we need to wear down defenses and move the chains in short yardage/goal line situations. I believe this method of attack made CJ so effective with the screen passes in his rookie season. Defenses would wear down towards the end of the ball game (think Baltimore playoff game, CJ’s rookie season). Also, I believe Dustin Keller would be a great pickup for us. He blocks better than Jared Cook and would be more of a consistent pass catcher. Yes it’s nice getting 15+ gains from Cook, but it’s almost just as good to be in 2nd and 2 from a sit down route from, for instance, Keller. What I mean is it allows for mre flexibility in play calling. Besides, Cook was predictable. The opposing teams knew we were throwing when Cook was in the game because he was weak at blocking (Who do you think missed the block when Locker got blindsided/hurt?). With Keller, it has the potential to keep teams honest with the run/pass. It could go either way with him in the game. I am a little concerned about losing Bironas. Afterall, what does he have to lose? The only Special Teams coach he’s known in the League is now gone (Alan Lowry). He is so consitent and to not resign him would be a blow to us, in my opinion. Sure he didn’t have a great year, but it’s hard to find a more consistent (proven) place kicker.

Nevermind about Bironas….he just resigned with the Titans (2 year deal)

I’d rather get big body for the middle of the D-line and then get barret jones in the second

Let’s get Ziggy the most outstanding player in the Senior Bowl with first pick and Wolford in 2nd.

DON’T FORGET DEFENSE…..WE NEED DEFENSIVE PLAYERS….HISTORICALLY WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BEATEN BY THE PASSING GAME…WE NEED PASS RUSHERS….

OFFENSE SCORES POINTS BUT DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS !!!!

It’s officially down to Milliner or Cooper at #10 in my opinion(but trades could change the outcome) Warmack said he would love to play for the titans because of our head coach was a hall-of-fame guard but he could go higher than 10 but Cooper is faster and would pair with CJ2K nicely since he is a very patient runner and his North Carolina coach said Cooper was so fast he could play fullback, but we could pick up Warford in the second round because the Titans have drafted a guard that since Munchak (I think) Milliner had the highest speed in the combine, incredible instincts and smart enough to knock the football loose from receiver’s hands; best believe he will be a Titan if he can make it to #10 cause our team covets speed. I also heard they like Vaccaro and check out him and Milliner in Sport Science on Youtube and how they exceed expectations. Our needs are Elite RG, Outside CB, Pass Rushing DE, Cover LB Depth, and more competition. Loved the moves in Free Agency,I believe the addition of Gregg Williams will help our D# get to where we need it to be, and this schedule looks to be in our favor. Fans need to have faith that Locker will shine, CJ will bring the heat with an o-line that has the potential to be the best in football, Our front seven (Wimbley, Casey, Martin, Morgan, Brown, McCarthy, Ayers can be a dominating force, and if we draft Milliner on the outside along with McCourty and Verner on the inside where he excels protected by a three-headed dragon in Pollard, Wilson, and Griffin that will complete our team that I can see making a seriously playoff run. Plus I really think Campbell, Markelle Martin, Solomon, and Thompson can be great for us. LET’S GO TENNESSEE TITANS FOOTBALL
