The Titans turned three turnovers into touchdown drives for a 24-6 halftime lead at LP Field Sunday.
Alterraun Verner recorded his second interception of Jets QB Geno Smith on the day with less than two minutes remaining in the first half to set up Tennessee’s third and most impressive touchdown of the first half.
Titans QB Jake Locker found rookie Justin Hunter with two seconds remaining in the first half for a 16-yard touchdown catch. Locker and Hunter connected on a 34-yard game winner last week, and the second catch of Hunter’s career also went for a touchdown.
This one was more difficult than the first, with Hunter falling backward with tight coverage by Darrin Walls. Hunter reached up and grabbed the ball, securing after it hit his hands and turned vertically.
Verner also had an interception on the second play of the game and returned the pass thrown by Jets rookie QB Geno Smith 34 yards to the New York 18-yard line.
Tennessee opened that drive with two rushes by Chris Johnson, two by Jackie Battle and a 1-yard TD pass from Locker to Delanie Walker.
Verner recovered a fumble by Smith that was forced by Zach Brown on a scramble play and returned that turnover 9 yards to the New York 26.
Locker converted third-and-8 with an 18-yard pass to Nate Washington and found Washington for a 4-yard TD three plays later.
Locker left the game with a right hip injury after a hit by Muhammad Wilkerson early in the third quarter. He will not return.
