McCourty Fumble Return Puts Titans Up 10-7

Posted by Craig Peters on October 13, 2013 – 4:47 pm

An opportunistic play on special teams gave the Titans a 10-7 halftime lead on the Seahawks.

Jason McCourty forced and recovered a fumble by Chris Maragos and returned the ball 77 yards for a touchdown as the first half expired. McCourty received a key block from Bernard Pollard and picked up a convoy the rest of the way.

Maragos was filling in as a holder for punter/holder Jon Ryan, who was going to attempt the short field goal in place of Seattle kicker Steven Hauschka. Hauschka left the game with an injury after he was bulldozed while trying to tackle Tennessee’s Darius Reynaud on a 40-yard kickoff return late in the second quarter.

As Michael Griffin was tackling Maragos, McCourty stripped the ball before Maragos’ knee touched the ground. The play was reviewed by officials and stood.

It was the second career touchdown for McCourty, who recovered a blocked punt against Indianapolis in 2011.

Why every time Chris Johnson run a flat to the outside the QB doesn’t even look at him has he is beening wasted. You pay this man 10 million dollars for that? 1.7 yards a carries? No holes to run thought and expect him to out run players all the time. It’s beyond me our teams running is uneffected!!! We can’t win games like that I was my team to use Chris Johnson more!!! Titans are making him look like a side show and not the C2k we know and love. Message to the our play caller? Throw the ball 40 times vs the 49ers isn’t going to work!!!!! #getittogether

congrats to the titans! you suceeded in finding a qb (fitzpatrick), who throws more incomplete passes then jake locker! 2 games in, and fans are still waiting for ryan’s first td pass! let’s not get started on 1.3yardsacarryjohnson. titans added warmack and levitre and 1.3ycj can’t even rush for more than 63 yards a game. the best 2 deep threat WRs on the titans roster are inactive on sundays (preston and hunter). we shouldn’t blame the players though, because all that falls on the coaches and coordinators. instead of volunteering for community golf charities, how about making the playoffs for the community and winning the superbowl in which the titans never have done since relocating to tennessee

titans try more play action passes from qb bootlegs, because the play calling on offense is became too predictable…

Titanman, how is your right mind can you say we have a good team this year when we are 500? We are one game ahead of last year’s pace, our alleged franchise QB is hurt “again,” and with SF coming up this Sunday we are looking at 3-4…Yet you proclaim we are a good team…So I guess the Broncos, Chiefs, Saints, and Patriots are terrible given your perception of what’s good?

Curson-4life…LET ME HELP YOU OUT….. Go get the NFL package so you can watch some Titan football because you sound like a guy that watches highlights all day long with no life. Since you dont no your team, I must tell you that we have a DAM good defense this year an last year we were last in total yrds on defense.
Just because we havent won in 2 weeks doesnt mean that we are a bad team.
Its seems to me that your a sore loser so ofcourse your going to hit the panic button when we start losing…. ENJOY THE SEASON AN STOP BEING A HATER…GO TITANS

45 AGREED.THERE ARE MANY WAY’S TO WIN A GAME, BUT OUR OFFENSE NEEDS A RUNNING GAME & POINTS SCORED! FITZ YOU NEED TO STEP IT UP & USE YOUR SMARTS.DEFENSE IS KEEPING US IN GAMES BUT CAN’T DO IT ALONE. WE ARE NOT GETTING BLOWN OUT LIKE LAST YEAR, BUT A LOSS IS A LOSS. LET’S ROLL CODE BLACK & BLUE. TITAN PRIDE!!!!

Titanman, you are hilarious! Fans like you and EB are exactly who Bud targets…The fan who accepts mediocrity. See, unlike you, I have been a fan since the team was in Houston…And I make no apologies for expecting more than a 3-3 record. For fans like you, as long as the team is 500 you are happy. Sorry, but some of us fans want more than a 500 record…Maybe a Super Bowl or two would suffice. But to say we have a good team shows you and EB need to be committed…3-3 isn’t good.

Titanman, while I applaud your enthusiasm I have to ask you to wake up and look at our team…We are a bad team. At 3-4 we are bad. Please stop making excuses for our franchise…Aren’t you tired of bring 500 every year? I know I am.
