Schwenke Camp Diaries – Preseason in Full Swing

Posted by Joe Fann on August 13, 2014 – 5:55 pm

Titans center Brian Schwenke is back with more of the inside scoop for what an NFL training camp is like from a player’s perspective.

Entry #6 – In the Thick of it

Our first preseason game last Saturday against the Packers brought a little bit of surprise weather. We weren’t expecting a monsoon but it’s part of he game and you have to deal with whatever mother nature wants to throw your way. We tried to deal with it the best we could and I think it was a great test for us in the preseason. For me, working on the center-to-quarterback exchange in a torrential downpour was a new experience. Most importantly though, we came back and won the game. I know it’s just the preseason, but all of us are such hyper-competitive people that we never want to lose.

On Sunday we had a much needed day off. As you can probably guess, I had another massage (because duh). My lovely massage… After that I relaxed and played video games. I used to like really competitive games, but now I like to control the speed and play one player games so I can relax. Right now I’m playing “The Last of Us” which is basically a game where you just shoot zombies. Like I said, relaxing. Oddly enough, my wife enjoys watching me play. We just sit there and she watches while I play. Seriously. She’s a keeper for sure. Then we had an amazing dinner of chicken medallions wrapped in bacon with cheesy potato casserole and asparagus. A movie and chocolate ice cream concluded the perfect day off.

We came back Monday and had a tough practice offensively. The defense showed up and played really well and we didn’t make the plays as an offense. Tuesday was a much better practice. It was very competitive and even got a little heated at points with a few scuffles. The offense made a ton of plays and redeemed our performance from Monday. If we keep practicing like this we’re going to have a very good team.

I’m looking forward to our first road trip this weekend. As long as the Super Dome doesn’t leak, it will be nice to be snapping a dry ball. I think this Friday against the Saints will be our first real chance to show what our offense is capable of.

Later days my friends. See you when we get back from the Big Easy.

After the weather last weekend I’m glad we’re playing in a dome tomorrow night, this will be the first REAL opportunity to evaluate our players. The only thing we learned last weekend is that they all know how to swim.
