Last week against the Steelers, linebacker Tim Shaw recorded his second career blocked punt and the team’s first blocked punt of 2012.
After Jason McCourty recovered the blocked punt at the one-yard line, Jamie Harper scored from a yard out two plays later, giving the Titans a 13-10 lead early in the second quarter.
The Titans recorded two blocked punts in 2011, tying the team record for punt blocks in a single season (1973, 1962, 1972 & 1999).
The team’s total of 11 blocked punts since 1999 is tied for the NFL lead along with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With Pittsburgh punting from its own 23-yard line, Tim Shaw shot straight up the middle and blocked the punt of Drew Butler. The ball bounced towards the end zone, where Jason McCourty recovered at the 1-yard line.
Two plays later, Jamie Harper scored from a yard out, giving the Titans a 13-10 lead with 14:14 remaining in the second quarter at LP Field.

After the game, Shaw said it was a play the team had worked on all week.
“It was the first punt of the game and we knew they would snap the ball quickly so I was ready for that,” he said. “Coach (Alan) Lowry called a block and I just went as hard as I could. I was ready for the snap, went as hard as I could, and they messed up and didn’t block me and I just took advantage of it.
“I can’t believe we didn’t score off it,” Shaw added. ” We had practiced it all week and had seen it on tape. Seeing the opportunity, I was really anticipating the block, and if you don’t do that, you’re not going to get there.”
